Mishearing Lyrics
Thought I knew you but if I leave ya lonely, I gotta move.
Leave ya truth: Never thought I knew you.
Never thought I showed you: these insides…
Keep em’. Turn, leave, pack, go.
Take a left at sunset. Cast a line of gold that you snapped
from my heart strings. It thumps back to its empty cave…
Getting lost? Pull up the covers… Fall a little deeper…
Obscured lovers revolve, consumed by twirling mirrors.
I wrote this while listening to “Never Thought That I Could Love You” as preformed by The White Stripes live. The lyrics are impossible to find and the audio is old and muddled but the rhythm and a few key lines made up the basic construction of this poem. It remains a work in progress and, as always, comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
