This is a comment I received on a message I sent the University of Northern Iowa where I am currently a student and employee. My original message was about the declining quality of the education at UNI and my personal dissatisfaction with a proposed $100 surcharge for the spring semester (after financial aid has been established potentially causing the extra fee to come out of student’s living, food or transportation budgets with only a few months warning). Feel free to react to anything, I do not discourage people who disagree with me as long as they bring up valid points. I have considered the following and don’t really see eye to eye with the author.

Keeping that in mind, I invite you to read my response to this gentleman named Mark: Our student tuition is still lower than all the other regent universities in Iowa. UNI has an excellent educational program for the amount we are lucky to pay. $100 surcharge is quite small and I was actually shocked to hear they weren’t going to increase tuition by $500 or even $1000. UNI receives less private and federal money than the other two regent universities, and so cuts like these place an added burden on our institution.

I am disappointed in my school and their decision to charge students a $100 surcharge when the nearest community college has found a way around a similar fee at their institution. This surcharge comes with additional increases in fees and tuition totaling over 6% for 2010-11!

“As a senior and a student employee (for most of my time at school) I have to ask you to not make us pay a surcharge. I read in the paper today that HCC students wouldn’t be charged a fee for their spring semester and they are suffering with the same cuts that we are. I have been following our school in the paper and am ashamed that students with sports scholarships are protected with a 2 million dollar donation to “preserve” only certain non-academic activities on a university campus when whole programs could get the axe. Shame on you for going ahead with all (even unnecessary) planned building projects plus the demolition of Baker hall (coincidentally the building my department is in.) I am under the burden of classes (which could be two weeks sorter with longer meeting times next semester) that are going to cost me more even when my bills are skyrocketing, the student loan companies are breathing down my neck and as a valued university employee I didn’t get my promised raise. I make a whopping 7.45 an hour, thirty cents less than I was making in food service. I understand that everyone is having difficulties but my point is that UNI should be a place for education, an environment where students can learn and work and not have to worry about footing the bill when departments and individuals insist on using more than their fair share. I just ask that my school do the right thing, before I am forced to leave it. I can not afford and REFUSE to pay for an education that has for the most part NOT BEEN WORTH THE MONEY OR EFFORT!”

I was sent to Earth to cover the 2008 American Presidential Election by the great one of my home planet. I was to depart with a male version of my species and infiltrate the political processes of a Midwestern state. On Earth, mates live with each other beyond the necessity for child rearing. This was a strange concept to us but my partner and I vigorously studied the disposition of lower-middle class American couples. I thought them a bit frumpy and crude at first glance but they really are an interesting subject. Humanoids attend Universities where they exchange imaginary creatures called “Loans” for valuable recreational activities. Humanoids that attend University are known as “Students” and they are a nasty bunch. Data collected over the span of several months by my partner and I conclude that Students are low on the hierarchical chain of human command. They eat indigestible worms with seasoned foil packet, they consume large amounts of Miller Lite, a most horrid beverage which causes them to behave in most peculiar ways. The young females dress in a way to provoke the young males. To any reasonable being vomit and loss of motor skills seems at best unattractive. Young Students perform these rituals in order to mate with another unattractive being of their kind. Alcohol is used so males may later deny attempting to impregnate the females, especially if the female is unattractive or bloated. Alcohol is a magical elixir that raises the Student’s exceptionally low level of self-esteem by making them think that others actually accept them. A Student can live in denial for several years before they finally come to terms with their occupation. They are sold into slavery by Banking and Loan Industries that require them to work a job in the food-service industry despite having earned their four year degrees in meaningless trades. They buy things they don’t need to fill the emptiness and finally have children, which finally destroys them forever. As I have said these young subjects were very fascinating and I am pleased to file this report. I hope it will serve as a historical account for future generations after the Humanoid Students take over planet Earth, which ultimately destroys it…

Films: Quills/Parenthood/Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Actors/Characters: Joaquin Phoenix/Keanu Reeves/Napoleon Bonaparte

Keanu Reeves happened to be in a classic film I like to call Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, well I suppose that’s what everyone calls it. Anyway, Keanu goes back in time via a telephone booth and who does he happen to meet? That’s right kids, everyone’s favorite five-foot-tall French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. Remember a little movie with Steve Martin called Parenthood? If you don’t just think of a funnier, more interesting version of Cheaper by the Dozen (which I have never seen but I will bet you a million dollars Parenthood is funnier, and it has a better cast.) Anyway in said film a young boy named Gary (played by Joaquin Phoenix, who at this time, in order to better fit in with his ‘nature’ named siblings, appears in the credits as Leaf Phoenix.) So Gary is a teenager who talks very little and seems somewhat mentally disturbed. We later find out he is watching strange porno tapes and so his mother (Diane Weist) has her sexually-active-teenage daughter’s live-in boyfriend Todd (Keanu Reeves) talk to young Gary. This is the initial point of corruption. The innocent younger brother of River Phoenix was corrupted and possibly sodomized. Could it possibly be that Ted of Bill and Ted and Todd of Parenthood gang raped young, fragile Leaf? Or perhaps they planted the evil acting seed within him so he would later take on a role in Quills. Everyone knows that Napoleon Bonaparte gets pissed off at the Marquis de Sade for writing such raunchy stories and sends him over to good old Leaf Phoenix, who by now has changed his name back to Joaquin. Joaquin plays a holy man who gives a nude, cut up Kate Winslit her first and final copulation, missionary style. If you’re not out renting this film right now, you don’t know what you’re missing, it makes Jesus cry tears of blood. Thanks to Napoleon and censorship of erotic novels an innocent, hot girl is dead. Geoffrey Rush plays the Marquis and writes absolute filth with his… own filth. In the end I suppose he was just a shitty writer. HAHA JUST F-ING KIDDING KIDDIES, I DO LOVE MY SMUT…
