I once be known as David Moody, before I ga’e me heart
t’ the sea. Now it’s jus’ Captain Moody or Moody wit’ nothing
at all preceding. It wasn’t verily that me lo’ed her salty whispers
and her wa’es that could rock a man t’ sleep better than a lullaby
softly hum’d. Me fell in lo’e with the ghostly soul she swallowed
thirty years ago. When that tumult swallowed her, it stole me heart
away from me. I ha’en’t felt it beat in ma’ chest since it sank t’
the briny deep. I never kno’ why she was took. She per’shed
like the rarest fruit resting on a windowsill an’ tha’ bitter taste
lingers still in memory after all these many regretful years.
